The Wines

The wines are made in the southern Rhone style under the Galilee appellation. This is arguably the best quality wine region in Israel. All are from the single vineyard owned by Jacques Capsouto. Each wine commemorates a member of Capsouto’s close family.

Cuvee Albert

Grand Vin Blanc

This is the Grand Vin Blanc, mainly made from Roussanne with Clairette and Marsanne. The Roussane was oak aged in French oak barrels. The wine is named after Albert, Jacques Capsouto’s younger brother.

TASTING NOTE:

The wine is straw colored with a lemony, apricot character and a hint of a floral aroma. It is medium bodied and with good complexity, and a long broad flavored finish.

Cuvee Marco

Grand Vin Rouge

This is the winery’s Grand Vin, named after Marco, Jacques Capsouto’s father. It is rich, concentrated blend of Grenache Noir, Mourvedre and Syrah. It is aged in old, used oak barrels, as Capsouto wishes to avoid any use of new oak.

TASTING NOTE:

The wine shows aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, hints of leather, soft tannins and well-integrated oak. It shows good fruit and a meaty flavor on the palate and has long lingering finish.

Cuvee EVA

Rose

The Capsouto Rose is made in the style of Provence, where roses are revered more than reds and whites. It is named after his mother Eva, who always urged Jacques Capsouto to do something for Israel. It is made mainly from Cinsault with a little Grenache and Mourvedre. Cinsault is barely used elsewhere in Israel.

Rouge

A fresh, zesty, bright red blend made from Mourvedre and Grenache Noir with a little Counoise and Syrah. This was the first use of Counoise in Israel. The wine is named after Samuel, Jacques Capsouto’s grandfather and brother.

Blanc

A medium bodied white wine blend made mainly from Grenache Blanc, balanced with a little Clairette, Roussanne and Marsanne. Named after Jacques Capsouto’s mother, it is in the style of a Southern Rhone white wine blend. This is the first use of Clairette in Israel.
